Valsynthese - Hazardous Chemistry in Safe Hands
Hazardous Chemistry in Safe Hands
Valsynthese was established in 1983 as a subsidiary of Société Suisse des Explosifs. The company is mainly active in the fields of custom synthesis and contract manufacturing for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
Our chemical plants manufacture Fine and Specialty Chemicals and Advanced Intermediates and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. The broad expertise acquired by the group in the field of explosives since its foundation in 1894 today allows Valsynthese to position itself as an expert in hazardous chemistry.
Chemistry and Custom Fine Chemicals
We provide our customers with a comprehensive offer from early phase development and piloting to industrial production. Our services include the preparation and submission of Drug Master Files.
The facilities are continuously upgraded, providing the latest technological advancements to our customers and partners.
Valsynthese is ISO-certified and cGMP approved. Both the principle of safety and environmental protection and the commitment to the Responsible Care programme are an integral part of the in place quality system.
Production
The production facilities consist of several multipurpose lines with a current capacity of 1,500 metric tonnes per year. They cover the full manufacturing range from lab quantities (a few kgs) in our pilot plant to large scale (up to several hundred tonnes) in our chemical and pharmaceutical plants. The infrastructure in place allows short-term a doubling of the capacities in the existing plants.
Valsynthese produces according to cGMP guidelines. Efficient risk management and ethical performance are cornerstones of our business philosophy.
Capabilities
Valsynthese has extensive expertise and capabilities in the field of high-risk chemical reactions and energetic processes and where safe handling of hazardous reagents and substances is required. The required calorimetric measurements are performed in-house by RC1 and DSC. Additionally, we use a broad range of classical chemical reactions:
• Acylation
• Etherification
• Alkylation
• Friedel-Crafts
• Amination
• Grignard
• Azidation
• Heterocyclic Synthesis
• Carboxylation
• Hydrogenation
• Chlorination
• Mannich
• Chlorosulfonation
• Nitration
• Dehalogenation
• Oxidation
• Diazotisation
• Reduction
• Diels-Alder
• Sulfonation

Quality and Regulatory Compliance
The basic principle of our quality policy is the concept of Total Quality Management at all levels. Valsynthese is continuously investing in the training of its personnel to ensure our commitment.
Actually, the Group's production staff from both the explosive and chemical units are interchangeable: an added value in terms of quality and safety. Valsynthese is certified according to ISO 9001: 2000 and is cGMP approved by SWISSMEDIC (Swiss Health Authority).
Our regulatory and cGMP services include process validation, preparation of DMF and stability testing according to ICH guidelines.
Safety, Health and Environment
Due to its historical background Valsynthese has a vast experience with safety aspects and safe handling of hazardous chemicals. Actually, a detailed risk assessment is performed prior to piloting or prior to an industrial production for any new chemical product.
Valsynthese owns:
• A facility for the recycling of acids
• A waste water treatement plant
• Distillation towers for organic solvents
• An incinerator for waste products
• A hydro-electric plant as a source of energy
All installations operate in full compliance within the prescribed Swiss and European legislation on environmental protection.
